HyperSolar Receives Additional US Patent for Methods of Manufacturing of Its Core Nanotechnology for Renewable Hydrogen Production

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., April 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HyperSolar, Inc. (OTCQB:HYSR), the developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen, using sunlight and any source of water, today announced that it was issued Patent No. 9,935,234 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “Methods of Manufacturing Photoelectrosynthetically Active Heterostructures.” The patent is critical to protecting the intellectual property related to the development of HyperSolar’s GEN 2 technology, the Company’s longer term, high-impact route to commercialization.

The patent protects the methods of manufacturing the Company’s proprietary design of a self-contained solar-to-hydrogen device made up of billions of solar powered water-splitting nanoparticles, per square centimeter. An important aspect of the proprietary and now patented technology is the integrated structure of high-density arrays of nano-sized solar cells that form the hydrogen production particles. This technology enables the roll-to-roll manufacturing of ultra-thin sheets for solar-to-hydrogen production, requiring substantially less material compared to conventional solar cells used in rooftop power applications.

The solar hydrogen production particles form the basis of HyperSolar’s GEN 2 technology, a low cost, high efficiency solar hydrogen panel that the Company believes can be the “holy grail” of clean energy. HyperSolar has made significant progress in advancing this technology which relies upon a proprietary high-efficiency nanoparticle solar absorber, oxygen catalyst, protective coating, low-cost manufacturing process, and an efficient panel design for safely separating hydrogen and oxygen.

A cost-effective hydrogen production solution would solve the most critical demand challenges in the hydrogen market, facilitating widespread adoption for consumer applications like fuel cell vehicles, as well as industrial applications like material handling equipment (MHE) for big box retailers.

About HyperSolar, Inc.
HyperSolar is developing a breakthrough, low cost technology to make renewable hydrogen using sunlight and any source of water, including seawater and wastewater. Unlike hydrocarbon fuels, such as oil, coal and natural gas, where carbon dioxide and other contaminants are released into the atmosphere when used, hydrogen fuel usage produces pure water as the only byproduct. By optimizing the science of water electrolysis at the nano-level, our low-cost nanoparticles mimic photosynthesis to efficiently use sunlight to separate hydrogen from water, to produce environmentally friendly renewable hydrogen. Using our low-cost method to produce renewable hydrogen, we intend to enable a world of distributed hydrogen production for renewable electricity and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.  To learn more about HyperSolar, please visit our website at www.hypersolar.com.
