DOHA: Qatar’s team at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva has won four gold medals and two silver medals, in a strong competition with 600 inventors from 40 countries around the world. The Peninsula met the seven winners from Qatar Scientific Club who won medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (inventionsGeneva). Qatari team was headed by Rashed Al Ruheimy.

The gold medal-winning inventors are Nasser Mohammed Al Marri for his invention “Portable House”, Mohsin Hussain Al Sheikh, who invented “Oxy Water Tank Cooler”, Rashid Al Mohanadi, inventor of “Al-Saeb Health Monitor” for labourers at work and Mohamed Al Jefairi who invented ‘SeeDo’ — a robot that provides instructions for deaf children to learn sign language.

Saleh Safran bagged silver for his ‘Samam’ invention, while Salem Al Shahwani and Mohamed Al Mohanadi won silver for their comprehensive vehicle fire protection system. Talking to The Peninsula, Mohsin Hussain said:

“Qatar Scientific Club has been supporting me throughout my journey which started in 1996. After showcasing my invention, I was amazed to know that this invention was not only needed in Qatar but in several other countries as well.”

Explaining about his invention, “Oxy Water Tank Cooler”, he said that it speedily reduces the temperature of the surface and bottom water in the tank. “I designed the cooler as per the needs of people in Qatar, which is very economical and will be launched in the market very soon.

“I have won five gold medals since 2016. Currently I have 24 ideas which are yet to be launched. My project of “Oxy Water Tank Cooler” has been awarded with four gold medals and shields,” Mohsin added.

Nasser Al Marri, inventor of a method and system to manufacture transportable houses, also won gold medal at inventionsGeneva. He said that his invention could be used world-wide as it gives a compact solution to people at an affordable price. “I am offering QR1,000 for one square with furniture.”

Transportable homes have two novel features, first: the use of furniture (bed, table, cabinet, couch, etc.); second: the structure of the walls, floors and ceiling is encased in insular foam and surrounded by panels, rendering the structure proper, insular foam and panelling one single cohesive unit due to the foam’s adhesive characteristics, thus insulating the structure from external factors.

With the fast pace increase in the number and volume of construction projects in Qatar and worldwide, safety of construction workers has become a great challenge which needs to be tackled.

Rashid Al Mohanadi and Saoud Al Kuwari, inventors of “Al- Saeb” project said: “This watch is soon to be launched in market at the price of QR280 to QR300. Keeping in mind all emergency precautions we have designed it.

“Our system is designed to monitor the health status and location of every construction worker on a site. It is also equipped with a warning signal mechanism that can be used by every person on a construction site.”

‘Samam’, is a smart safety (IoT) LPG and natural gas shut off system that detects and reacts immediately. This project has three units: Sensor Unit: a sensor which is responsible for the detection and interaction between Samam’s shut off unit and the mobile App through Wi-Fi gateway to the clouds; Shut Off Unit: this sensor helps shutting off the regulator completely by detecting the leakage automatically and Mobile App: this application shows the temperature of the kitchen, while the person can access the switching off system of gas from app.

“We are bringing out 100 units in market this year to see the customers’ reviews on our product as per the demand of the customers the production will increase eventually. The price of the product will be QR800 as it can be used for a lifetime,” said Saleh.

Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani met with these Qatari inventors and praised the efforts of the Qatari inventors and their achievements in the international scientific forum. He wished them success and further scientific achievements to bring more glory to Qatar in regional and international forums, adding that the winning inventions contribute to improving the quality of life and achieving further economic and social well-being.

Ooredoo Group Chief Executive Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani and Ooredoo Qatar Chief Executive Waleed Al Sayed recently congratulated these seven Qatar Scientific Club members. They also received a gift from Ooredoo for their hard work and dedication.
