Around 80,000 people on Sunday took part in a rally at the National Monument (Monas)—nearby the US embassy—in central Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, to protest against US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, according to The Straits Times newspaper of Singapore.

The turnout of the Defend Palestine rally grew from 40,000 at around 8am local time to 80,000, said  Jakarta police spokesman Colonel Argo Yuwono.

It was the biggest protest in Indonesia since Trump’s aforesaid move.

On December 6, US President Donald Trump stated that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

But this decision has brought about worldwide reaction.
