SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, October 11, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- San Francisco, October, 11th 2017 – The Miskitu Government in Exile, is receiving daily reports, videos, and photographs that are coming out of the Caribbean coast villages and jungles directly from the Miskitu peoples and their elders. These reports are detailing and documenting severe human rights atrocities and abuses that are being committed by the Colonos (Colonists) and Sandinista government that include the systematic rapes, torture, and murders of the Miskitu peoples.
At the present time, the Matriarch of the Miskitu nation, the Rev. Josephenie E. Robertson, M.T.T. has filed a complaint Case No. 3:17-cv-00852-JST in the United States District Court for Northern California, USA before Judge Jon S. Tigar. On October 12th, 2017 the court will decide if the case will proceed on its merits as a river of human rights violations overflowing the banks of a political river versus being called a “political question” by the Sandinista defendants. But, this story doesn’t end here! There are Miskitu rumbles coming from the Nicaraguan jungles for freedom and a decolonization referendum.
Since the Nicaraguan war ended in 1987, the Sandinista defendants led by President Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo have set in motion through a strategic, methodical and political manipulations to thwart this momentous happening for the Miskitu people to finally rid itself of the chains of enslavement from successive Spanish, Nicaraguan and Sandinista governments since 1894 when the Nicaraguan government first attacked and invaded the Miskitu kingdom to secure a potential route of an international canal.
The Sandinistas through corruption and in direct contravention to international treaties requiring the traditional authorities the right to be involved in negotiations that affect their natural resources and the well being of their peoples have engaged in “cherry-picking” those Miskitu followers that have joined or belong to the Sandinista party such as Ms. Myrna Cunningham as the Permanent Forum Chairperson for the United Nations Division for Social Policy and Development – Indigenous Peoples with respect to representation of the Miskitu peoples.
In Washington D.C., representing the Indian Law Resource Center and the Miskitu people is Sandinista appointee Armstrong Wiggins. He has litigated on behalf of a Miskitu village before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
Although he prevailed on several points, the Nicaraguan government has refused to honor the court’s ruling. He had failed to follow up the Court’s ruling by seeking sanctions against the Nicaraguan government. The Miskitu people are guided to his legal expertise in lieu of using their traditional authorities that are required under the original international treaties. Mr. Wiggins position with the Sandinista government and placement over indigenous affairs appears to thwart any attempts by the Miskitu people to seek redress or remedy of their complaints.
Finally, the Sandinista government has positioned itself on the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization thwarting any legal attempt by the Miskitu people to secure a referendum and nationhood. But, the Miskitu peoples’ local complaints are beginning to rumble. Many elders, citizens, and commanders have been contacting the Miskitu Government in Exile with sworn affidavits that they recognize their traditional authority and representation.
As the Miskitu peoples unite as a single voice with the Miskitu Government in Exile, as their traditional authority, they royal traditional authorities will soon have more than 80% of the Miskitu people behind their cause for an independent and restored Miskitu nation as a nation among the world’s nations.
