MIYIO 2018: 30 innovative products pass first screening for patent filing

SUNGAI PETANI: Some 30 innovative and creative products featured by students participating in the Malaysian International Young Inventors Olympiad (MIYIO) 2017 successfully passed the first screening for patent filing.
Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) director-general, Datuk Shamsiah Kamaruddin said the 161 entries were under the Biomedical, Electronics, Environmental, Engineering and Chemical categories.
Over 200 local and international students from nine countries participated in the programme, themed 'Nurturing Ideas, Culturing Innovations', to highlight creative and innovative products, she told reporters at the closing of MIYIO 2018 here, today.
"We have received 161 entries. Of that total, 30 entries passed the first stage of screening and have been forwarded to the patent agent for the review process before a registered patent agent initiates the draft for the patent filing of the product," she said.
The programme, organised by MyIPO in collaboration with the Fully Residential and Excellence Schools Management Division, Ministry of Education (BPSBPSK-KPM), was also well-received by students from Turkmenistan, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Nigeria and the Philippines.
