HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A state representative from West Oahu plans to officially announce her run for governor.

Rep. Andria Tupola wrote a message on her Facebook page, saying there's no "clear vision for Hawaii" and she feels she can "step up and lead."

She spent the last several months grooming someone named SaiZan V Timoteo to take over her seat next year.

Tupola is the minority leader and one of only five Republicans in the House of Representatives. She quickly rose in ranks after being elected four years ago.

She plans to announce her gubernatorial run next week Saturday.

Another Republican, John Carroll, is also a contender in the gubernatorial race.
